FLENG Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 as some may know i recently bought a 2001 ghia tdiafter spending some time with her i noticed a stone chip in the window in the drivers view, didnt think much of it at the time just though it was one of those unfortunate thingsi later discovered a rattle from the front end, it took me a few days to realise that the car had just been mot'd a few weeks earlier so i looked at the failure sheet, it failed on track rod end and ball jointi called the garage and they said they could remember the galaxy and the policeman owner, i managed to speak with the actual tester, he said he was sorry and he must have not checked the ball joint on the re-test and that he would replace the ball joint FOC for the error, im thinking this policeman is a friend of the mot tester?? i later rang the policeman and told him about the rattle and he told me that the ball joint was never changed but he did do the track rod do you think i should inform vosa or shall i let the tech sort the issue, im just thinking what else has he missed?i have kids so im abit concerned, also the mot garage is in reading and im in nottingham...also if i take the car to vosa, am i liable for the repair and a re-test fee?im not sure how vosa works and i could do with some advice if anyone has had a similar problem or know the vosa formality's many thanks Quote
zorgman Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 best thing to do is get the repair done then take it to another garage and ask how much for a pre mot or get another mot on car, i kow quite a few mot testers and when i take my car i tell them to go thru it like a dose of salts as i like my car safe same as you, dont go along the vosa route unless your 100% sure about it hence re mot car or when your at the place getting the free work done ask dude to give it a right going over tell him your worries Quote
gregers Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 as above but add a sting in the tail, mention that unless IT IS GIVEN A BLOODY GOOD GOING OVER,then you are considering informing vosa about a potential dodgy mot,:) Quote
cyborg Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 as above but add a sting in the tail, mention that unless IT IS GIVEN A BLOODY GOOD GOING OVER,then you are considering informing vosa about a potential dodgy mot,:) Informing Vosa ! What your joking right ! surley he shot a dawn after being pulled by rope attached to said car...... :) no seroiusly please, the man's offered to "replace the ball joint FOC for the error" were only human and thankfully not robots .I would be happy with that he could have just said "It was ok when he checked" your case end of .I don't think there's a conspiracy going on by any means and no I don't work in a garage and am not a copper. I do see your point perhaps next time you buy you could have a independant check done . Quote
Mirez Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 Humm.. I see both points here, yes they are only human and mistakes happen and had it been on the first test then I would have agreed. The re-test is all about checking the repair or replacement of the items picked up on the first test though so a mistake here isn't really excusable. VOSA won't do anything other then log it, they dont go forward unless they have a number of complaints about the same garage so unless the garage is truely dodgy then they won't be that phased by a threat to notify them. If it were me I would take it back, get the ball joint done and tell them you intend to get another MoT done at their expense as you have lost faith in this garage. Quote
